Default Re: Purification of Karma through Physical Cleansing Practices: Theory

Sounds good in theory, and I totally agree that many animals are treated inhumanely.

I had the considerable joy of working in a sheep slaughterhouse. Sure, on the farm sheep are well looked after, but then they are forced into overcrowded trucks, driven to the yards in the slaughterhouse, penned up, and fed on a conveyor belt where they are :

1: Stunned with high voltages
2: A mechanical bolt driven through their skull
3: Their throat is cut
4: Still kicking, the animal is hung by its legs on sharp hooks
5: The head is removed with a large mechanical pair of "Scissors"
6: The gut is cut open and the intestines removed
7: Step by step along the production line, the carcass is cut into ever smaller chunks, emerging at the other end in neat boxes labelled "Chops" and "Forequarter" and "Ribs" etc.

The work is unforgiving, no one actually enjoys the work, the place smells like death.

The only lamb and mutton I've had in the last few years has come fresh from my father in law's farm, with a lot less stress involved in the killing and preparation of the animal. I know its wrong to eat other conscious beings - but I always take the time to myself to mentally thank the spirit of the animal and to apologise for its lot in life.

I once had a lucid dream, where I was put through the slaughterhouse like a sheep. It wasn't very nice.

Despite all this, I am addicted to meat! Half a cabbage is my initiation into a raw diet, (its all I had in the fridge!) but its a start isn't it?

Having said all that, if you kill something yourself to consume it, I think there is less guilt involved. Fishing springs to mind. Ah but the hooks!!!

Great Article Pillar, I am certainly going to be considering MORE dietary changes, I am Vegetarian at the moment, however I have eaten small amounts of meat here and there, but I am liking this Raw food diet, I think its very interesting, and it makes sense!
